Acts 17:22-31

Paul Addresses the Areopagus

22So Paul, standing in the midst of the Areopagus, said: “Men of Athens, I perceive that in every way you are very religious. 23For as I passed along and observed the objects of your worship, I found also an altar with this inscription, a‘To the unknown god.’ bWhat therefore you worship cas unknown, this I proclaim to you. 24 dThe God who made the world and everything in it, being eLord of heaven and earth, fdoes not live in temples made by man,
Greek made by hands
25nor is he served by human hands, has though he needed anything, since he himself igives to all mankind jlife and breath and everything. 26And khe made from one man every nation of mankind to live lon all the face of the earth, mhaving determined allotted periods and nthe boundaries of their dwelling place, 27 othat they should seek God, pand perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. qYet he is actually not far from each one of us, 28for

r“‘In him we live and move and have our being’;
Probably from Epimenides of Crete

as even some of tyour own poets have said,

“‘For we are indeed his offspring.’
From Aratus’s poem “Phainomena”

29 vBeing then God’s offspring, wwe ought not to think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by the art and imagination of man. 30 xThe times of ignorance yGod overlooked, but znow he aacommands all people everywhere to repent, 31because he has fixed aba day on which ache will judge the world adin righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and aeof this he has given assurance to all afby raising him from the dead.”
